How to Practice Mindfulness

Human beings have this tendency to escape or avoid the present moment. They do so by listening to music, watching movies, reading books, eating, drinking, scrolling on their phones, or thinking of the past and future. All of this is done so that they do not have to face the present moment. Because for them the next moment is much more important. It is nothing but a means for them to reach the next moment. Let’s learn why to practice mindfulness.

Why to practice mindfulness

#1 Reason to Practice Mindfulness: We only have Now. Honestly, it is all that we have. Nothing happened in your past and nothing will happen in your future. The so-called past and future, when they arrive, they arrive in the now. So why avoid it, when we can embrace it?

#2 Reason to Practice Mindfulness: It Strengthens the energetic field. Everything is made up of energy. We need a strong electromagnetic field around us so that we can create our desired reality. This happens only when our attention is in the present moment. But if our energy is scattered in worrying about our future and past then this field gets weaker as wherever our attention goes, energy flows. So, practicing mindfulness becomes important if we want to become the creators of our reality.

#3 Reason to Practice Mindfulness: Heal. When you’re no longer stuck in the past and future, your energy returns to your body. As we already know, wherever our attention goes, energy flows. So, now this energy will become a vital source in the regeneration of our bodies. When we practice mindfulness, our body starts to use this energy to repair, heal, and create new opportunities.

How to Practice Mindfulness

There are various ways to return your attention to the present moment or to practice mindfulness. Remember this, while you practice mindfulness, you only need to use one method and you need to be very patient while practicing these.

Inner body

By observing or feeling your inner body’s energetic field, one can easily enter into the generous present moment. When we observe energy around our body, our mind gets out of its usual thinking mode and into the present moment.

Stop & Observe

Ask yourself where am I right now? Am I present? Or you can observe your body’s reaction by asking- how do I feel right now? What am I resisting right now? The moment you ask yourself these questions, you return your attention to the present moment. In the beginning, you will stay present for a few moments but as your awareness grows, your presence will start to expand for longer durations.

Stop & Listen

One can easily return to the present moment using their senses. For example, stop and listen to the tick-tock of your clock, the chirping of birds, the humming of your air conditioner, the beeping of the microwave, the honking of cars, etc. If there is no noise then become aware of the silence that surrounds you.

Return to your Heart

Your heart holds age-old wisdom thus it acts as an atlas in our lives. You can practice mindfulness by returning your attention to your heart center. From there start observing the space around your heart center, feel your heart, stay with the sensations, and accept whatever arises. Be it anger, frustration, or fear. Accept it with all your heart and stay there. Your mind will feel agitated and will force you to get up and do something or tell you you’re doing it wrong or you can never do it right etc. Stay there, be brave to see what’s on the other side. And when the moment comes, when you can’t sit any longer but continue to do so that’s when magic happens. But you’ve to be willing and patient enough to see it.

You cannot master the art of mindfulness in one day, week, or month. It takes years of practice to master this practice. It might sound like a lengthy and difficult task. But in honesty, you just have to take care of this moment. If you’re worried that you missed the last moment then congratulations you are conscious of this moment. It is that simple.
