How to get out of your head?

If you’re someone who wants to get out of your head but finds it difficult then this article is for you. It seems so easy to give your power away to a program, where you do things just because your mind is telling you to. Until one day when we realize how we missed everything in life. It’s like every morning your mind goes into a foggy haze where you don’t even realize what you’re doing and why. Your mind just takes control and you lose your connection with the present moment.

How does the mind take control?

Analytical mind

The mind is obsessed with analyzing everything. Thus from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep, our mind is running the show. It analyzes everything and gives us commands based on past experience. Fun fact is that we are thinking the same thoughts and feeling the same emotions that we have been doing the day before. Why? Because we have surrendered our will to a program and when we try to change this program we find it uncomfortable. Because it’s where the unknown lies. The mind can’t predict the unknown thus it stays away from it.

Commanding mind

The mind loves to tell you to do something. When you are in your head, you can’t differentiate between what’s real and what’s an illusion of the mind. Your mind will start to make up situations in your mind to feel the adrenaline of survival emotions. It will create an imaginary situation and start to force you to react or do something about it. To be honest, sometimes it makes me want to keep my head out somewhere so that I don’t have to feel the insanity of the whole situation.

Reaction

If you’re always in your head then this means you’re always reacting to your environment. It is so tempting to react and defend ourselves sometimes that we lose touch with our inner being and give away our power. So how do we solve this or how to get out of your head?

How to get out of your head?

Conscious effort

It just takes a willing choice to return your attention to the present moment. You have to be willing to do it. If you’re doing it with half heart then chances are you will give up sooner or later. It takes a tremendous amount of conscious effort so that you don’t get lost on your way out of your head but it’s always worth it.

Morning bliss.

As soon as you wake up, consciously bring your attention in the now. Be brave enough to do so because if you don’t make a conscious effort, your mind will start to run the show. Take a moment before you get out of your bed. Become aware of your inner body, the sunlight in your room, the chirping of birds, etc. Don’t rush your mornings otherwise, you will lose touch with your being.

Center yourself

Bring your attention in the center of your heart and just be there. Accept whatever arises in wholeness. The thing with being in your head is that if we fight to get out of it, we sink in it. So just become aware of your inner body and from there bring your attention in the now.

Return your attention to your body

Your Body is another portal to get out of your head. Start by putting your attention on various body parts. Observe the space there and then surrender.

Walk in nature

When we continue to do the same thing, live in the same environment, and interact with the same people over and over again we get stuck in a loop. So a change in scenery becomes essential to get out of your head. A walk in nature can bring a lot of presence in the body.

To bring something new into your life you need space. But if you’re holding the baggage of your past and worries of the future then no space is left to welcome something new. You will continue to create the same old reality. This is one of the reasons why we need to get out of our heads and in the now.
