5 Reasons why your head aches while meditating

Read to know why your head aches while meditating.

Being someone who meditates regularly, I have come across various phases of meditation. Some make me feel aha and some I just want to get up from. All of them had taught me something that I never thought was possible. It’s like when I meditate, I become a new person. Never in my entire life, have I thought that the things that triggered me the most were the things that would set me free. One of the things that I encountered in my meditation was headache and if you’re reading this then you might have gone through this too. Let’s know why it happens and how to overcome it.

# 1 Reason why your head aches while meditating: Resistance to what is

Whenever I rejected or resisted what the present moment held, my head would start to hurt. The pressure would increase when I tried to get rid of those sensations or tried to override them. It just simply didn’t work. I started to become impatient in my meditations and then more in my life. Nothing was working. I read a lot of articles to know the reason why it was happening until one article struck me.

# 2 Reason why your head aches while meditating: Head over Heart

The article said, your head hurts while meditating because you are meditating with your head instead of your heart. Boom. That thing changed everything for me. Because I realized I was more focused on trying to be present than being present. The constant pressure of ‘trying’ would trigger my sensitive mind by saying that something needed to be done and I was doing nothing. This continuous push and pull would lead to headaches.

# 3 Reason why your head aches while meditating: Subliminals

Listening to a lot of subliminal or frequency music can affect your nervous system. And when you loop it, it tires your brain more as you are not allowing your mind the break it requires to process the new information. This eventually starts a headache.

# 4 Reason why your head aches while meditating: Social media

After using social media, you might have felt that you need to do a lot of things to become like those influencers. And that to-do list becomes so long that your mind goes on a loop to order you around. Your body cannot comprehend what needs to be done and what does not thus it shuts down. This imbalance again starts pressure in your head which intensifies in meditation.

# 5 Reason why your head aches while meditating: Trying to control your meditation

I did it unconsciously. I never knew I was controlling my meditational practice even after practicing it for hours. I realized later that I needed to release control and surrender more. And this scared me the most because whenever I wasn’t in control, my body would start to panic. So I made myself learn a few techniques that completely transformed my life and deepened my meditations.

How to overcome it?

Sensing the body’s energetic field

Go into your body and start to sense the energy around your feet, legs, hands, and arms. Studies have shown that when you’re sensing energy, you get out of your head and in your body.

Opening chakras

Headache is a sign that energy is stuck somewhere in your body that needs releasing. Start with your root chakra, observe the space around your perineum, and sense it.
Bonus tip- Try to look for sparks in your perineum, this will help you sense energy more easily.
From your root chakra, go toward the sacral chakra where your womb lies or the space a few inches below your navel. Observe the space around your sacral chakra. You can use the bonus tip here too. Don’t judge anything, just sense the space. Let it happen on its own.
Now move toward your solar plexus or the space above your naval. Repeat the sensing process here too.

Return to your heart

My favorite way to stop the pounding of my head is by returning my attention to my heart center. Observe your heart center and accept whatever happens from there. I will surrender to whatever sensations I might feel in my head. It can be a trigger of thought, emotion, or refusal of now whatever it is I accept it in my heart. When you accept the sensations they lose power over you and dissolve themselves.

Whatever we push away or try to get rid of, will strengthen its hold on us. Thus the way out is within. By accepting what is and making peace with it we clear the space and allow new possibilities to walk in our lives.
